Ozone unit DIY repaired
I inherited an ozonizer. The sellers original ad said "untra 300 ozonizer". I ended up getting it for very little.
It turns out likely that it was broken and the seller once repaired it. It has a metal body (this part looks manufactured) with two air attachments. There is a 4-pin (looks to be T-5) connection with a lamp ballast, likely taken from a lamp, rated at 24 W. I found out that there is such a thing as UV 4-pin T-5 for ozone. I think I get it now. My reading on ozone long ago was that ozone is from an arc, but it appears that it is more generated by UV nowadays. I found out that if I have to replace the bulb it will be about $70, not very bad. 1. How easy is it to get another ballast of this type? 2. Should the air port closer to the bulb be inlet or outlet? 3. It turns out that the bulb in the unit now is much less than 24 W, likely just 10 watts, should such a 24 watt ballast still be OK? 4. UV at wavelength of 180 is used to generate ozone. Much more dangerous likely than at 250. |
