feeding ring

When feeding the fish I need to turn off the sump pump as well as the power heads to eliminate the water flow. This is fine whem I'm home but I purchased an automated feeder for days when I'm not available.

Is there a plastic ring that would be held in place (suction cup)? The food would be dispensed within the ring thereby not requiring shuutting off the water pumps. Many, many years ago (like50) there was a ring to serve this purpose but I can't locate one.
Jim

This one is smaller than the one I have, the one I have I can't locate but it floats, I secure it with a short piece of fishing line.

A buddy of mine used to use one of the rings from his kid's ring toss toy. Glue an epoxy/rubber coated magnet onto one of those (or anything similar), and that should keep it right where you want it.

your inputs got me thinking (rarety). I have an acrylic tank with european cross braces & lots of acrylic strips left over from 'this & that'. I could fab a a 4 sided shallow frame and attach it to a cross brace. I could make it permanent thereby not needing to turn of the water pumps each time I'm feeding the fish.
Thanks for your help. Jim

I know the feeling - sometimes that answer is just there and needs to be poked to the foreground.

What about just setting up a timer so that your pumps shut off during feeding time?

well if he's anything like me - a) I don't have a controller b) if I did it'd be hard for it to stay in synch with the battery powered fish feeder I have c) I don't like shutting off the pumps when I'm on vacation - just something about that makes me nervous even though I know there is no good reason for it.

I just made one out of plastic egg crate, cut to desired size, super glue 2 small L shaped pieces to the sides and attach to the center brace and side wall with a dab of super glue.. works great and cheep.....

LordoftheReef - I'll leave the ring in place permantly but will only use the feeder when I'm not available. When I am 'around' the fish have to put up with my time table for their feeding. That's another way of saying my clock
is always a variable.

Brascal1 - your right; it's better not shutting down the pumps if it can be avoided.

TruReef - the eggcrate idea is simple. Does super glue bond eggcrate (polypropylene) to acrylic? If so, I'll try it.

Thanks for the inputs, Jim

here is an idea. works great for me... I never turn off the return pump or powerheads to feed... flake sits on the water till it absorbs enough water to sink. All other food goes "in the hole" as well... only negative is that my fish hover around the "magic hole that provides food" at feeding time.

I'm off and running. Plan is to use the egg crate; cut out the inner ribs and notch 2 adjacent sides which will align with two acrylic strips that will be weldedto the underside of the acrylic tank ( in the corner of a cross brace and the perimeter brace. Thanks again, Jim
