I believe for the entire EV line, the water should be at the top of the black box, which is at the bottom of the clear cylinder. They used to recommend about an inch below the top of the black box, but have since changed that.

Yeah, top of the main black box. You really need to dial them in for good skimming, so fiddle with it to make sure your getting good skimming. You may also need to cut down the air a little so the bubbles are not too big.

From the AquaC user's manual http://www.proteinskimmer.com/User%2...als/EV-400.pdf

Quote:
"It is important that the sump water level is not too high. If the sump level is above the output of the gate valve, the skimmer will perform inconsistently when the level rises and falls due to evaporation, water changes, etc. As long as the maximum sump level is below the output of the gate valve, the skimmer’s performance will remain unaffected and you won’t need to raise the skimmer."
I looked this up, because I have an aquac 400 ev and did not have it installed as is being recommended here, but remembered something from the user's manual.

I find that I prefer to have the water level slightly higher than what they recommend to eliminate the splashing noise from the return, but its only 1/2" or so above the outlet from the skimmer and I dont believe that it affects skimmer performance very much if at all.

Oops, my bad. I thought you were asking the water level in the skimmer. I need to read more carefully. +1 to what he said.

Haha, I read your post and obviously didnt read the OP very well.

It is 9" up, so you need 9" or lower water, otherwise you need to raise the skimmer up. I had to raise my 180 3" to make it.
