Lights? What can I keep?
I just recently set up a 90g RR with 100lbs of live rock reef base substrate from Redsea and x2 250 watt MH pendants about 9 inches above the tank.
I want to know What I can keep exactly and what I may have trouble keeping. I am really looking into doing a few small clams. Let me know thanks in advance! I love this place! |

+1 to the above message. How long has the tank been set up. You should wait some time till the tank establishes itself before putting any high priced pieces in it. Also, make sure you monitor the calcium with the clams, since they use a lot of it.

I think the list would be shorter if you asked what can't I keep....usually when people ask the same question they have a couple of 32W Standard Florescent from their FW tanks sitting on top...
I know, because I was one of those a few years ago. ![]() |

I would start our with a few blue legged hermits, nass. snails and turbo snails. I would probably do about 5 hermits, 7 nass. and 5 turbos. Im really just throwing out numbers. I like to start small and add as I see fit.

If you're certain that the cycle has completed, it OK to add the cuc now. I like to keep a collection of snails, hermits, shrimp, crabs and stars, it makes for a nice diverse crew that covers most anything you need to clean up.

OK...just make sure before throwing all this stuff in the tank it has food to eat... If you have no algae blooms or fish to leave behind un eaten food, or to create waist, the cuc will have nothing to clean and the hermit crabs are going to eat the snails. Add a couple of clown fish, if your tank is the way you say it is, its ok to be adding those two fish. Wait a week or two and then add something else and so on.

Hi Nicholas,
Welcome to ReefCentral! What kind of lights are those your running on the tank, and where you buy them?? They look very yellow and what kelvin bulbs do you have in the fixture? With MH you should be able to keep anything pretty much in the tank as long as you have the correct kelvin and MH bulbs. Tank looks great and sounds like the cycle is coming to an end! What you running for a sump or filtration on the tank? Skimmer? I see you live in MN are you a member of TCMAS? Great looking tank and let me know if you have any questions im from MN also. You can always send me a pm if you have questions on anything. Later and Good Luck!
