Oh no! n00b/SPS - combo
Hi. I recently got my first sps and it seems to be doing fine. I’m a total noob in this hobby, so I have some questions
Is this a Digitata or Samarensis? Not that it really matters, but are they equally “easy” to keep? The dead tissue was there when I bought it a few days ago. I assume the coral will cover it if it thrives – correct? Polyp extension is the easiest way to see if the coral is doing ok, yes? As it was such a large piece and not attached to anything, I couldn’t fasten it to the LR using super glue, so I ended up using epoxy and had to cover a bit of the coral itself. I assume this is ok and that the epoxy will get covered eventually. My Flame Hawkfish instantly fell in love with the monti. Is it possible that he can love it to death? :P Assuming water parameters/flow/light stay constant, how long does it usually take for the coral to color up to its “final color” so to speak? I just noticed that a few branches are starting to have a more pinkish tone to them. I have a finger leather in my tank as well. If my monti thrives I will probably focus on more sps. If that’s the case, I should just sell the leather – right? |

It's a digitata. The dead spots will eventually get covered by new tissue. BTW, I like your hawk's facial expression. Looks like he's saying "whatever"

I would cut the dead tissue off taking a small amount of the good tissue with it. This will stop any possible tissue necrosis from spreading.
Just use some cutting pliers.

I don't see any signs that necrosis will progress. The margins are starting to spread, if you notice the white rolled margin in the middle of the pic. I'd say leave it.
