Shipping cost estimates on shipping fish

OK I have found a fish that I want on the west coast at a major fish store and have a good price on the guy but I have to pay actual shipping on this sucker. Going to both Fed Ex and UPS websites gives me an estimate of a 35 pound package running between $185 to $221, FE being cheaper. What's the deal with this? How does LA and other shippers get by at around $30 bucks to ship? I figured actual shipping would be $75 bucks at most. Anyone know how to get shipping any cheaper through these guys?

I lost trust in USPS a long time ago. I'm going to call the local Fed Ex store today and see if they can do any better. Triggerfreak, I think you probably have a good idea of what kind of fish this is

I might. But you should really pm me and tell me what it is.The little queen is doing ok.She got ick from the shipping and i am treating the tank with rid ick and hypo right now.Although i did lose a small cow fish and small pork puffer from the ick she brought in.And i picked up a 4 inch all black dogface puffer the other day also. And you might want to look into overnight shipping on airplane also, if you have a airport close and the shipper is willing to go that route.

The sponsor below ships live items and offers discounted shiping rates from Federal Express and UPS. Something worth checking out.

If you do decided to get him, I hope you have better success with the shipping. I was very sad to read what happened to your last CT. What size is this one?

Good luck Jason

Given the fact that there is no guarantee of live arrival on this big CT and the frigid cold weather on the east I am going to wait till warmer weather. If it is still there when warmer weather comes I will get it but right now it is too risky. I think Danorth is thinking about buying it now after talking to him yesterday. It is local to him.
