new skimmer pump recommendation

my octopus skimmer pump quit working on me. It has been acting up for the past 2 months but has finally quit. I have tried soaking it in vinegar, but it still does not work. It just sits there and makes noises, but it never starts pushing water, then it will go quite and not work. It used to do this, and if I would blow air into it, then it would start. That does not work anymore either.

Soo any pump recommendations or should I buy a new skimmer?

-thanks in advance

Depending on the size of the skimmer, the bubble blaster pumps are a good choice.

I think the skimmer I have is the nwb 150 version. I will look into the bubble blaster.

I have a decent bio load. I do not know if I should go ahead and upgrade

Check out the XP2000 - it would be a fine upgrade!

I agree. The bubble blaster pump on the xp2000 is a world above the OTP pump your current skimmer has.

I don't think your current skimmer is enough for a 120g

Is that to much pump for my skimmer? I did not know if my skimmer body size had to match the flow rate or be similiar. Do you think that pump would be the best choice or should I upgrade skimmers?

The skimmer came used with my tank

Sorry I should have been more clear. I think you should purchase a new skimmer. The xp2000 is a good choice as is the SRO 3000 model.

Another skimmer that works great on tanks your size is a msx200 http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/ca...duct_info.html Free shipping with coupon code "skimmer"

I would go with the xp2000 or sro3000 if you can afford them because they have a better pump then the msx200. If the msx200 fits the budget better it will also work great.

If the body of the skimmer is decent, just buy a new pump. A bubble blaster, Red dragon, or (as I chose) Tunze Hydrofoamer (/silencer) are all good choices. Just make sure you buy a pump that is very close to the same output as the original.

I cannot tell by looking at the Octopus what model I have. The only information I can find is these on the pump.
* Model: OTP-3000
* Power: 65W
* Voltage: 110v/ 60hz
* Calibre: 20.0mm
* Max. Jet: 3.1m
* Max. Flow: 3000L / H
* Size: 185x150x180mm

does anyone know if this is for the octopus NWB-150 or NWB-200.

If it is the 150, then I will probably upgrade, but if it is the 200, then I might just get another pump

A bubble blaster 2000 would be more then enough. You have the octopus 200. There have been many different versions. What diameter is the neck and input?

I am assuming this is the neck, but the part on the skimmer cup that connects to the body is like 5-3/8" and the top part of the body of the skimmer is 6 1/2" both outside diameter
