Aptasia all through sump
Due to a peice of live rock put in my sump, there is a current infestation of aptasia in all 3 chamber of my 10g sump. I though I had a handle on it until the algae in the refugium section started growing rapidly Then I only removed what I could see. Now I notice that it has spread to the other chambers including the where the return line is located after the sponge. I have a sponge filter on the pump. Also I have yet to discover any aptasia in the display tank.
Will the sponge filter covering the pump inlet keep the aptasia out of the display? Or is it likely that is is already there I just haven't notices it yet? |

Hate to say it but it is probably already in your display. Look in the display well after lights-out with a flashlight.

+1 on both of these. If it's not there now, it will be soon. You may also be lucky enough to have an inhabitant in the tank that's eating them ahead of the growth curve for now.
If it were me, I'd get some extra flow in my tank and run sumpless for a day and kill that crap with a heafty cleaning. |

Put some shrimp eating apitaisia in the sump.
Yes, you could run sumpless and soak the sump with a saturated solution of kalk |

^ Aptasia eating shrimp!!
If you are gonna go that route just put the shrimp in your display so they can keep the small aptasia under control and manually or chemically remove the ones in your sump. Sometimes the shrimp wont mess with an Aptasia if it is too big.

I actually saw on a thread (I think it was the ghetto rig thread actually) someone had an aiptasia scrubber, that literally had dozens if not hundreds of aiptasia all in one neat little "package" that the water was channeled through before it made it to the rest of the sump. I am not entirely sure how it worked, but I do remember seeing it. I will do a bit of digging and see if I can find it.

how would an aiptasia scrubber work? wouldnt the aiptaia just release spores that would get into the DT? or do I have aiptasia reproduction wrong?

Well, to start I don't believe they reproduce by means of spores. Like I said, it is in the thread. I would ask the person that posted pictures if you are interested.

Questions about using kalk to control the issue.
How much kalk would i need to use to kill the Aptasia in a 10g sump? What else is likly to die in the sump due to the kalk overdose? How long should the circulation last? |

You basically just make a paste and stick it on there. Seeing that you have a 10g sump though, I would be worried about what your total water volume is. I don't think you mentioned that?
