I think my water is supplyed from a well but and not 100%.. Just looking for some input do I rly need a pressure gauge and Duel TDS meter? with all that I am looking at over $200 just the standard 5 stage is $185 with shipping and tax Thanks |

I have the BRS 6 stage and I love the unit. If I were you I would just save for another week or two and get the 6 stage. I'm sure all you would need is the 5 stage, but it might be worth the extra money. I know the one Purchase before I got the brs unit cost me close to 400 bucks and lasted less then a year before two of the fittings went bad and flooded my basement. With the BRS also the refills are cheap and they use really good filters. I don't have any opinion on the other one you stated, but many someone else will know the brand.
Do you know what your TDS reading is right now with no RO/DI unit? oops I thought your budget was 200. Sorry I would do what you can and get the pressure gauge and TDS meter. You will waste less money on refills, it gives you a better idea on when you need to change the filters. Also the 6 stage unit which costed me 265 or something close to that come with the upgraded stuff and tells you how long you have on your filters. |

I don't think the Pressure gauges are necessary, they can help, but the dual inline TDS should give you a good idea of whats going on in your system.
Also, what filters are in the 6-stage? When I was looking at them(after I bought a crappy unit) I noticed that some came with carbon and charcoal, while others just with carbon. It is my understanding that carbon removes chlorine, and charcoal removes chloramines. If that is the case, you can call your water company, and see if they add chloramines. If they do NOT use chloramines(most don't, think I read on here somewhere near 7% of water companies add chloramines) you do not need the filter that removes them. If the 6 stage has multiple sediment filters(something micron) and you are using well water, I would get it. Oh and for my reference, my tap starts at 115(from what I hear pretty good) and i have a 4-stage. My ro membrane reads 0tds, and thats the 3rd stage. Unless you have HORRIBLE water, a dual DI is likely NOT needed.

The dual DI really isn't necessary until the first DI goes out and the second can take over. Overall, a system with 1 stage DI will produce 0 TDS just the same as one with 2. I wouldn't spend the extra and a second DI stage unless its important for you to not skip a beat when it comes to your DI material going bad and you need to order more.

you can call the water company that supplies your water. Testing-wise, don't think so. The water company should have a water info sheet at their disposal, and it should say whether or not they use them. Also, without the dual TDS meter, I would just grab a pocket tds-meter. It should be about $20, and a good investment in my mind. I have that, and the dual in-line tds.

i'd skip the 2nd di too, especially if cost is a factor. pressure gauges can help you monitor the system, and will tell you if a booster pump is needed for efficiency. tds meters are vital, but i kinda like handheld ones.
take a look at the buckeye field supply 75gpd premium series. the only thing you need to add to it is the connection you want, and the baseline is $169 (plus ship) compare that to the 75 GPD RO/DI 5 Stage *PLUS* System from BRS and see which you like better.

try buckeyefieldsupply.com. there prices are very good and their service/support is great. they are not looking to sell you things you don't need and take the time to troubleshoot and find solutions to your problems/questions. They steered me away from a lot of unnecessary stuff like flush kits, etc. which have no empirical evidence as to support improved membrane life.

In the long run, dual DI can actually be a money saver because it allows you to exhaust virtually 100% of each DI canister before have to discard the resin. It is also worth noting that a second DI chamber can always be added at a later date. I currently only have one, but plan on adding a second with all the water I make.

I've been running a Typhoon from AWI for ~5years. No complaints, no problems. 5 stage and we have >200ppm TDS.
One feature that I highly recommend: ASOV (auto shut off valve). You might not use it right away, but once you get tired of waiting for a trickle of water and buy a pressurized reservoir, it'll make a world of difference. I bought a pressurized tank that is ~11 gallons. The ASOV automatically fills it overnight, or during the day -- unsupervised! It allows me to fill 1 gal top-off containers in ~15sec, since the water is under pressure. I can get ~10 gallons started for a water change in minutes. It is one of the best things I added to my set-up. Paul |
