Macro Algae on live rocks

Hi

I have just set up a new
nano 60 liters saltwater aquarium.
I have used about 10 kgs of live sand
and about 5 kgs of live rock and 5 kgs of dead rocks
i have also used about 5 liters of
water from an established tank to kick start the cycle
Its been 5 days and my ammonia is at 0

My live rocks have some macro algae on them
like some halimeda and some cheto.

I want to know if i should leave the
live rocks with macro algae in the new tank
or should i put it in my old tank
Would the new tank kill the algae ?

And do i have to turn on the lights for the
macro algae while my tank cycles

Thanks

It may survive the cycle, but if you really want to keep it, remove it to an established tank. And yes, it will need lighting in either situation you choose.

I just set up a nano with live rock that had a lot of halimeda and many other macro algae and used it in the cycle with no problem. Halimeda specially did well, it started growing right away. The tank is a little more than a month old and I already had to prune it a few times. My lights are on for 8 hours a day.

If your live rocks are cured and/or came from an established tank, you should have a minimal cycle and they should survive, provided your other parameters are in check.
