anyone run a Poseidon PS pump?
I am wondering about the quality of the Poseidon PS pumps. The specs for gph and wattage are very good and fit my need. Any one using or tried them.

I have 2 PS1's that I've been running a few years. Flawless operation, virtually silent. And if you can isolate the vibration, that means truely silent. You have to touch them to reassure youself that they are actually on.
But they DO transfer a significant amount of heat to your water. In some installations they could totally negate the need for a heater. GREAT pumps. But WARM.

It's too bad the search function is not working. You could search for Poseidon or Velocity. Two different "brands", but the pumps are identical. (I actually have one Poseidon, and one Velocity. Absolutely identical externally. Identical performance.)
As to the heat...my two PS1s run on a 180g freshwater tank. That tank is a acrylic (holds heat better than glass) under two 150 MH pendants, 12-14 inches above the water. In the winter the pump heat is no issue, when the room is typically 65-72 degrees. I keep the water at 82 degrees. And it stays there solidly - which means heat is being held there by heaters. But in the summer - when the room is 78-79 degrees - I absolutely cannot keep the tank at 82 degrees. During the day I have to shut one of the pumps off for 45 minutes out of every hour to keep the tank temp from climbing above 84. Sorry I can't give you an exact figure. If I did not have the metal halides, I'd say a single PS1 was warm enough to raise a 180g at least 3 degrees. I've never tested to see how hot it would get, nor tested the temp without the lights. But IMO you can count on raising 100g of water a few degrees. If the tank is glass, and the room is sufficiently cool, it may not matter. DEAD silent pumps though - provided you can isolate the vibration as I have.

These pumps are for all intents and purposes, dead silent. I have never seen a quieter pump. They are water cooled which is one of the reasons they are so quiet. Heat wise, the PS1&2 are 98W. The PS3&4 are 140W. That is how much heat they add. For a comparison, the Mag 9.5/12/18 are 93/110/145W. Figure the heat added would be similar for a similar wattage pump.
I use a PS4 for a return from the basement sump. The added heat works well for me. It cuts down on the amount of time my heaters have to run. In the Summer, my tank maintains temp pretty much without the heaters kicking in. The the colder months, the heaters run but not as much as they did before.

I have 2 PS3s running on a 75 right now. Virtually silent! I have a chiller on the system due to the hot summers and MHs but in the winter my heater still has to run at night to keep the tank at 79 so they cant be affecting the temp that much as my wife keeps it 75 in the house even in the winter. They are truly amazingly silent. Well worth any heat trade-off. I have had both of them for over 3 years and no mechanical issues.

So if I'm running an Eheim 1262 (about 90 watts) and want to replace it with a Velocity/Posiden T2 (98 watts), I shouldn't really see much difference in temp?

If you're running your Eheim submurged then you shouldnt notice more than a degree. If you are running your Eheim inline then you may notice a little more depending on how well your Eheim air cools itself but not more than 2 or 3 degrees diference.

The Eheim has no provision for heat transfer to the air. I doubt you would see any noticeable difference internal or external. So basically, the 90W/98W pumps would be very similar in heat output.

Great pump...can't hear mine run...I run the big one as a return pump on my 120. My tank stays at 78 degrees with only a fan blowing over the water. But my house never gets above 74 degrees. I live in Texas and it gets up to about 105 and horrible humid so we run our ACs 9 months out of the year.
