Too many watts or that is how mushrooms are??
I have 2 MH bulbs at 14k 200 watts. When I first turn on the lights these mushrooms give off a great color. They are like this for the first hr or 2. Then they turn an pale orangish color and the mushrooms are fully opened or expanded.
The mushrooms are in the middle of water column. I can lower them about 12 inches. http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...8/IMG_7143.jpg How do keep them at this pretty green color??

How long have you had the mushroom under the Halides?
Are the halides new to the system?

I've been told and seen it happen to my own tank, where, mushrooms will lose their pigmant and turn towards a pale brownish color when they aren't getting enough light.

Halides and mushrooms came at the same time. I bought rocks from someone and they were on the rocks. The lights came within a day or so once the rocks were put in the tank. Both are around 6 months in my tank.
The mushrooms are the greenish color in the dark and when I first turn lights on. After an hour or so they change color. It has bee like this fro day one. I just never bothered to inquire about it.

I have a theory. Don't metal halides change spectrum as they warm up. If so is it possible that the frequency required for flourescing is being lost as they heat up?
Chi what kind of lights do you have. |
