Water level and return inlet
What is the distance you keep between the water level and the tank rim? And how deep is your return inlet submerged?
I am thinking of having the bottom of overflow teeth 2" from the tank rim, and the the return inlet 1" from the bottom of the overflow teeth. And if it matters, the tank dimension is 4x2x2'. Does those numbers sounds good to you? Thanks. |

My water level in my new tank is quite high, the overflow is about 1 inch from the top of the tank and I'm going to set my return line slightly below the water level to reduce noise(dont forget to punch a hole into it so it doesn't siphon all your water back into the sump during a power outage).

I am thinking of drilling the back of the tank for return. The vent hole trick won't work. So the water will drain when the pump is stopped, unless I install a check valve which I wish I can avoid. The dilemma is that I want to have the inlet deep to avoid splashes and at the same time I want the inlet to be high so siphoning will be minimal.
