Nikon 17-55 f2.8 or 24-70 f2.8?
This is to replace 18-200 which I like but never love, and would be addition to a 10-20 and a 70-300. Not really considering any others, just these 2 lenses (here's the first thread I started that helped me narrow it down). I have DX body with no plans to get FX anytime soon. Opinions and input on the lenses or ideas to help me decide are very much welcomed!

I don't know on the quality of specific Nikon lenses, but just looking at lens sizes, the 24-70 would be the best fit. You already have an ultra wide, so you don't need that 17mm.

If I have $1739 to spend, I'd get the 24-70mm though non VR, this is one of the best lens ever produced by Nikon, flanked by 14-24mm and 70-200mm VR, you will have the trio of top notch glasses with flexibility of switching to FX if you ever desire. The bokeh, chromatic abberation are exceptional and IQ is excellent from corner to corner at 100% cropped even with aperture wide open. Minimum vigenette to speak off even in FX mode, non can be detected in DX mode.
Composition wise you will have more leverage with the 24-70mm than the 17-55mm in wedding events. These are what I've read so far from the reviews gathered from various sites. |
