Upgrading Question

So I recently purchased a 58 gallon oceanic tank with a 40 gallon sump. I currently have a 29 gallon reef that has been up and running for a little over a year. I have never moved a tank. I have purchased 50 lbs of base rock from Marcos. I am wondering if I should use some of my live rock from this tank or not? I have a little bit of algae in it but I think that with the larger system and with a fuge it will keep it under control. If you have any suggestions about moving from a smaller tank to a larger I would greatly appreciate any advice you have to offer. Also, how long should I cycle the new tank for?

if you do not care about not doing it right away, i would take all the base rock and put it in the tank with one piece of rock from your old tank and a scoop of sand from the bottom. let that cycle for 2ish months and transfer everything in i personally would put the old rock in too but that is up to you.

use it to seed it. when you see the marco rocks has been seeded and see your copepods, amphipods LIVING things all over your rocks then it has been established and you can remove your previous rocks.

cycles can vary, you'll have to test your parameters and with everything else time is key. 2/3weeks is around the same time cycle but can be earlier based on your tests. this is my suggestion if your putting most of your pre-established LR/LS in the new tank with new rock. but as mentioned you can remove your previous rocks after some time.

I want to add the LR I just heard someone say "Why would you contaminate a clean system?" So I wanted to get a few thoughts on that.

ummm, how do you cycle a tank without contaminating it by that thought process?
