!!!what just happened!!!
I'v had a small toadstool coral in my aquarium for over 4 months now and when I come home he is CUT IN HALF. He was happy yesturday and now the only thing left of him is his head. My water parameters are all fine. I just had to take out a sick gorganian that was covered in a black algae and now 2 days later this. All I have are soft/polyps(mushrooms,star polyp, and somr other form) a cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, an emerald crab, a plate coral, a clam and 2 chromis and 3 anthias.
Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!

The base is completely gone? You found the head detached and on the bottom? Rough cut = some large hitchhiker (gorilla crab). Super clean cut = roommate with a razor blade.
You can attach the loose head to a rock and it will grow back. If the head is large enough consider cleanly cutting it in pieces and securing them to rocks for many toadstools.

I've read on Seapug's thread that sometimes his did that, and that it was normal and it would come back healthier than it was previous to the splitting/deflating. He's had his for years. Now it's about 12"-15" in size.
Not saying that is what is going on with yours, but maybe something to think about or research. :-)

All I can see is a little bit of flesh on the rock. The cut looks almost yellow in color. How would I go attaching it.

Plastic toothpick through the base then rubberband the toothpick to a piece of rock. Works for me.

Is it possible to post a picture?
Ignore the small piece on the rock, attach the larger piece to a rock with either glue or rubber band. |

How long have you had the leather? My fiji leather and other toadstool leathers about every two months don't puff up for a few days. It's normal.

My toadstool's base got yellowish and started falling apart, and it turned out to be a bacteria infection. if it is a bacteria infection cut off the infected part and dip it in iodine.
