Getting Bitten

Anybody else out there who is regularly getting bitten by his fish? I've got a nasty little clown who doesn't so much bite as he does strike at my hand whenever its in the water. He'll stirke at my ring, finger or anything else i put in. And he's getting bigger. Just curious if others have this problem and how they deal w/it. I'm thinking a tiny little harpoon.

yep. Youre not alone. Not much you can do but get rid of the fish, curse or get used to it

This is quite normal for clownfish to do this. I have not heard of anyway to deal with this other than getting a second pair of hands in the tank to distract. This would be a good way to get your significant other into the hobby and do some tank chores....wait a minute I think I just came up with a great idea!

I have a damsel that goes after my hand, the mag-float, the scraper, or anything else it deems not worthy of being anywhere near is little part of my 120. I cant tell if it is biting me, or just "ramming" me, though. I am sure it would like to kill me, but its just too small. Crazy little thing.

I can imagine w/cichlids. Had a nasty black oscar once that probably would have bitten off my finger given the chance. These clowns have about the same temperment. If not for my daughter loving the way it plays in the anemone it would be history. So the clock is running on this one.

Bled by my Cichlids before, yup...

My Black Clowns get great pleasure out of attacking me... just to prove they are king and queen of the tank. Stings, sure... but no big deal... unless they decide that a specific freckle or hair is particularly offensive, and his is repeatedly. If I have time to kill, I finger fight with the male. He takes off, then sneaks up from the rockscape to hit it. All in good fun. lol

my clowns do the same thing. the male hides until the female attacks, then joins the fun by coming out of the rocks to attack.

I got bit by my 8" porcupine puffer. When I pulled my hand back the fish came flying out of the tank onto the floor.
It hurt so bad. When I looked down I expected to see a lot of blood, but it just hurt for a day.

The fish was fine. He went right back to normal activity.

Clowns bite. Mine are like teeny battering rams with teeth, and my wife takes great delight in watching a grown man getting his butt kicked by a couple of fish.

What it ends up meaning is their side of the tank doesn't get cleaned quite as often

Yep, my female clown just bit me about 15 minutes ago. She always goes for the tender part too, the underside of my forearm. It doesnt really hurt it just suprises me.

She just laid eggs and they are both being very protective right now. I came home from my in-laws about 20 minutes ago to find out someone had knocked over a good sized Zoo rock. I put it back up and within 3 minutes I saw her (the clown) knock it right back off. Hence the reason I had my hand in the tank waiting to get bit.

I agree, but no matter how many times it happens and even the fact that I know it is going to happen they still succeed in startling the crap out of me. If they were not so damn cute , I would be pi$$ed!

ROFLMAO!
Well, I'm not alone, at least. Not only does my female ocellaris topple frags & coral colonies whenever possible, she knows EXACTLY where to bite my hand. Between the fingers, on the webbing. Hurts good, even draws blood. Sometimes I can fend her off with a scraper but she is less easily fooled.
All I can say is at least I DIDN'T buy a frenatus or a Maroon clown.
I too wear gloves, but she still can startle me even then.

Matthew
This happens when they have a Host, BTW.

It's not my true perc pair that attack me, they are oblivious. It is my royal gramma that drives me nuts. He doesn't always bite, but when he starts, he is relentless.

My female clown goes straight for the webbing of my fingers every time. My 4 year old rolls on the floor laughing that such a little fish has me jerking my hand around when she bites.

My female occ. clown bites me all the time, and it hurts. It doesn't hurt bad but enough to make my jump and cuss her out. Its a pain because I can never put my hand in the tank to rearrange anything.

Yeah, my big fat 41/2" mama Tomato Clown with a razor mouth draws blood every time I stick my arm in the tank. I call her Dr. Evil and her little male partner Mini Me. They are the terrors of my reef.
