Nice tank but its way too small for any of those tangs and the cooper band, and insanely small to have them all.

The fish size
Thanks! Notice all Tangs and and copperband are tiny they are just bigger than the chromies. They love the tank and have plenty of swim room. If they get bigger I will move them into my big tank. So far they are very happy fish.

Big skimmer and water changes.
Thank you! I use a 15 gallon sump with a really big protein skimmer however I have about 70 lbs of live rock in the tank that really does most of the work. I can have the skimmer off for days and it doesn't really change much. The refugium just helps get nitrates down from 20 to about 10-15, I stopped using refugium for about 2 months prior and it didn't change too much. I do 10 gallon water change about every 8-12 days for nutrients and calcium for corals but nitrates stay around <20 if I just run system as is. My blue hippo let's me know if water change is past due, he/she will get one ick spot if I am very late on water change, after water change the one spot is gone almost instantly. I try not to let him get that so about 10 days 10 gallons. I don't add any extra nutrients to tank besides what's in salt mix. (reef crystals). I do feed add reef nutrition red pack of frozen food in their daily mix of mysis shrimp and brine shrimp. Usually feed about 3-6 cubes a day and that keeps fish happy and Melow. My refugium is only about 8 gallons and I think that's good size to not over steal coral nutrients but keep the nitrates in check. Most important is water changes. Thanks for the comment! Good luck!

I only lost one fish since the tank started and it was a diamond goby, he died from lack of water. He jumped out of the tank on day 2 he was in there. I also lost a snail that crawled out and fell on the ground and don't bother with snails any more. They make more waste than they are good for.

How do you like your LED light? I saw the same one at a corals farmer market a week ago and it looked nice. I didn't get any info on it. It doesn't look like there're any moonlights on it. How do you control the LED? Just one ON/OFF switch? Dimmable?

Led light
It was money well spent. The color of the lights really bring out bright coral colors. It runs cool. No chiller needed. There's no moon lights or dimmer. But it's got a built in fully programmable on/off timer. They make the same light with more controls to shut down LEDs and moonlights. I just bought this before they came out. The light was only about 300$ and has a10-12 year life span. It also seems to do pretty good growing sps near top of my tall tank. Mine is only one watt per bulb, they make a 2 and 3 watt per bulb now and wish I could have gotten them. For my big tank I'm switching from pc/175mh to a 3watt per bulb led system for around 1100$.

I think the tank is way too small for your fish. They love the tank? They have plenty of swim room? No they don't. IF they get bigger...which they won't because they are stuffed in their like sardines. Again, they are happy? Where do you get this assumption from? You have the fish load of a tank 3 times this size. And can you please explain in more detail about the hippo/ich/water change technique. I've never heard of this before and am quite interested. (A 10 gallon water change won't get rid of ich - and if the hippo has it, it means it is stressed out and that the other fish will get it eventually) |

The tangs are TINY. Tang Police will say a tang is a tang is a tang... but they are TINY! lol
I am glad you did a close-up of the Sun Coral. I have one that I am wanting to re-introduce to the DT, I have him in the sump right now... nice and dark, but he is sooo pretty, it is a same to banish him to the depths of the bowels of my tank. Your Zoa coverage is AWESOME... I gotta get mine to start speading like that. I wish I had a second home for the fish to go once they got bigger, but alas I am straped for space and funds... so my 55g will have to be my limit... and I can covet you'z guyz with the resources. :-) Entertaining tank, fo'sho!
