Thoughts on what this might be...

I got a shipment from Reefcleaners.org and was happy but I was acclimating some nassarius snails and I noticed some red bugs swimming around the bag as well. Does anyone know what they might be. Good or Bad. They are tiny I tried taking a picture of them but they don't show up due to size. a little smaller than the head of a pen with a little clear tail. Not shrimp like. Kind a hard to explain. Not sure if they are amphipods or what. Let know as soon as you can.
I don't want to add them to the tank if they are bad. Thanks.

ok here is a pic

Sorry I tried to get the best pic possible. It's all the little red spots.
[IMG][/IMG]

They are kind of funny, they look like little squiggly red balloons.

If anybody has any idea. Let me know.

Thanks!

use flat worm exit and they all will die quickly . make sure that you remove them asap as they are toxic when they die . i would QT the entire bag but first pull the corals out and leave the flat worms in the bag , only temp acclimate the corals and QT them . i would do the flat worm exit treatment three times four days apart so you are sure they are all dead .they are a bad thing to have and will cause you head aches in the future especially with sps corals .

to me it looks as though you have flatworms and they are not good . i cant believe that a LFS would sell corals that were infested in that manner and would bring them back unless you have something extremely rare and just got to have it .

I emailed John on this and he was surprised to see them as I was. He said he was going to check his tank and he said everything looked ok. He want's to replace them but I am just going to ask him to reimburse me. It would cost more to ship more to me than the money I spent on them.

Crap, I just got a big shipment of snails from them. My directions said NOT to acclimate them way you did. They said float the bag for 15 mn and add them directly to the tank, so I never would have seen them. .

Yeah I know, I just did it cause that is what I am used to. Automatic I guess I don't know. I am glad I did. I didn't see them before I started to acclimate them.

Oh, yeah, if I had seen that there is no way they would have went in my tank. These things do happen though, I just never thought with snails. I also was very happy with the service from John so I sure don't want my remarks to be seen as bashing them.

To be sure.......you dont need to go through a bunch of lengthy qt stepsn to get rid of them nor do these kind of flatworms actually eat ar really harm anything......except for your eyes when they get to plague proportions.

dip the thing in Revive if you have it.....if not, iodine will kill them easily as well. If you use straight iodine it could matter what kinds of corals are in the bag as far as how much iodine you use.
