T5 ho penatration????
Hello all, I am currently acquiring equipment to set up my 120 gallon(60x18x26tall) I guess my question is, will t5 ho penetrate a tank that deep to grow zoathids and palys.... I ask because I grow alot of Higher end z's and p's... Currently I am running metal halides, but I want to try something new with this tank.... If I decide to do t5 ho's it will be a retro consisting of icecap ballasts and tek2 reflectors, probally 6 bulbs.... If so do you think ALL sps would do fine under that lighting setup? Thanks all for you input... Richard

You'll definitely get better penetration if if you go with Icecap Reflectors. They are known for punching the light better than the TEK2.
There was a thread around here comparing them but I can't find it. But yes, if you put a 6X80w (57") T5 setup over that tank, you'll get plenty of light punch. Just don't skimp on the reflectors.

I just read that Ice cap vs tek2 comparison...... and I have to say I am confused.... But from what I gather the ice caps actually wins.....hmmm, but I don't recall reading if the light will penetrate 26 inches... I just want my z's and p's to fade or loose their growth, and I want to start with some sps...... I am still debating t5 ho or 250 watt radiums.... I hope I get more input... maybe some pictures

If you use good bulbs and good reflectors then you won't have a problem keeping stuff down at 26 inches. You may actually have a hard time keeping lower light stuff higher in the tank.
My buddy has 30 inch tall tank with an ATI Sunpower over it and grows easy SPS on the sandbed.
