bulb to close to water?

i have 2- 250w MH se....... i had glass to seperate water and bulb but they cracked. tank is in my basement so plenty of cool air blows in the canopy and tank is 125 gal so no temp rise when bulbs where on for 5 hours. the bulbs sits about 4 inches from the water, is this to close?

i would move up at least 8in from water. mine are about 12in in a 2ft deep tank. lights up bottom of tank like day.

If water hits the bulb while they are on the bulbs can shatter. Not something you want in your tank. Raise them up.

Having your MH lights about 10"-12" above the water helps to keep water from splashing on them and cracking or shattering them.
