Need ID On This Coral

This started as a tiny orange patch on some live rock that I bought 2 months ago, and has now grown to the size of a dime. It is flat to the rock, and extends its polyps during night or day. It reminds me of a plate coral; however, I can not see a mouth when the polyps are retracted.

Any ideas as to what this is would be greatly appreciated.

It's really hard to tell from that pic, can you get a close-up?

Thanks for the feedback. It's definately not an anemone - the animal (when polyps are retracted) actually looks like a flake of orange rock attached to the live rock beneath.

This is about a close as I can get a pic before the pics are just blurred - hope it helps..

does you camera have macro mode? it would be the 'flower' on one of the buttons. turn this on and you can get much closer.

I was using a Canon Powershot on Macro setting - I'll dig out my Digital Rebel and use that, just got to charge the battery

Nope, sorry, it's just too far away for a good macro shot (0.28m/0.9ft) from outside the tank. We are going to have to go with the pics provided above.

Take a more clear picture, from further away, making sure that the object is in perfect focus. Make sure to keep the camera as perpendicular to the glass as you can, to avoid distortion. THEN, crop the picture, to make the object appear larger.

With the pictures you've provided, it's impossible to tell.
