U-Tube overflow
What is the best way to get the water started in a U-Tube overflow? I've always had drilled tanks and the 1 I had with this set up was started by shooving a tube up it and sucking until the water came over. Any easier way?

Sucking on an airline hose for 3 seconds sounds pretty easy to me

That is how I do it....airline hose up in the tube and suck. Once it is going I don't have to do it again unless I break the siphon for some kind of maintenance.

Alternatively, you could submerge the U tube in the water (I find display tank is best for this), use plastic food wraps to seal up both ends and hold it in place with both hands. While holding the wrap in place, quickly lift the tube out of the water and put the tube in place (of course make sure both sides of the overflow box has water in it). Once both sides of the tube is submerged you can then remove the wraps. I find that it works better than sucking if your U tube is long and opaque.
