Teco TR-10 (1/8) on RedSea Max 130 (34g), what do you think? Change it?
Never owned a chiller. Last summer my RedSea Max 130d had significant heat issues and I found myself placing bricks of ice in the tank when it hit 85+ (Lost my Xenia from Southern California's Reef-A-Palooza (RAP) due to the heat). This year I really want to protect my tank and not worry everytime I leave the house. Tried to research everything I could on chillers, and I ordered the Teco TR-10 (1/8). I think I could of used the Teco TR-5 (1/12) and be ok, but all the chiller articles state go bigger. Do you think this is a good decision on my RedSea Max 34 gallon? It has not shipped yet, so I may be able to change my mind and go bigger, possibly to TR-15 (1/5)?
Also, has anyone setup a chiller in the RedSea Max 130d? What pump (model), did you use that would fit into that small area to the left of the stock skimmer and still provide high enough gph flow for the chiller? Was thinking of the largest RIO or Eheim that will in that pocket. Any input is appreciated, Thanks, Fantastic4 |

Just so you know Im going with a Teco 1/5 hp on my 70g system and last year I had a 1/15 hp chiller on my 34g solana and it was just fine.
I would go with the one you ordered... |

Quick update, after some more reading on the pump, I'm leaning toward going external with the Eheim 1048 Pump in the cabinet pulling water out of the tank and into the chiller inlet. Reviews state that the heat is reduced being external, more room to work with skimmer and more pump options as the tiny back compartment is limiting.
