Interceptor (treat red bugs) - can it be simply praziquantel???
I have read the sticky on top saying that interceptor cannot be legally purchase without a vet's note (in the US). But RC is not just a US only forum, so let me raise this question.
While doing my purchase of Interceptor drugs, I came across their medical content disclaimer on the ingredients. It seems it only contains praziquantel and Milbemycin oxime at around a 9:1 ratio (majority of it being praziquantel). That lead me to the question on whether the other 10% ingredient Milbemycin oxime help if at all on the killing of redbugs at all. Maybe all it is needed is the right quality of praziquantel and the other ingredient is not important at all. If that is the case, that will solve alot of our 'quest' to buy interceptor for red bugs, pay the vet etc. and just use our aquarium everyday prazi de-wormers. Sorry if this topic has been covered. From Dustin Dorton's article:
The medication is a DOG heartworm medication called Interceptor, it is only available from a veterinarian with a prescription. The tablets used in the initial treatments were for large dogs, 51-100lbs. These tablets are just under 1 gram each and contain 23mg of Milbemycin Oxime, the rest of it is a lovely smelling beef flavor. This chemical is active against Nematodes (Heartworms in dogs) and select arthropods (some types of Mange in dogs). Luckily, our red bugs are one of those select arthropods. The tablets come 6 to a box. Also, Reef Central is in the USA and this thread has been closed.
