REALLY loud pump, any suggestions?

I have the Pan World 250PS Magnetic Water Pump in my 72 gallon bow front and I finally did my water check on my first setup and boy is this thing LOUD!

This has been my only issue other than one leak I fixed. Any reason this thing should be so loud? Even three rooms away the hum and whine from it are insufferable.

It's either a cheap pump, damaged pump... or it's wore out. Either way you gotta replace it. U might try another brand or get in contact with that manufacturer. A good pump is quiet.

is there no way to open it/clean it? Could there be air stuck in it? Any other reason it could be loud other than its bad?

Panworlds are loud pumps even when they are new. Best bet is to look into another brand. Most of the Reeflo pumps are quieter than panworlds.

Usually you can open a pump with some simple screws... and often people save money and replace impellers and other parts. But yours might be like this right out of the box. It's good to ck. reviews on anything you want to buy. MarineDepotLive has them built into their site.

Well, this is a used pump that came with this whole setup my dentist sold me. Perhaps it is working properly, but this noise is too much. He is going to come by tomorrow and check back in on my setup, and if he says this is "normal" for this pump, it isn't gonna work.

so what is a good manufacturer or pump that is QUIET for a 74 gallon with a 29 gallon sump?

edit: reviews on this pump are saying how quiet it is, how you can't tell it is running. This this is humming and whining. It has to be faulty or something must be wrong with it.

You said it was used. Might just need cleaning... or a new part. Nobody can answer any of these questions but you. If you're satisfied with the review, wherever you got it, then it must not be that then. But don't go by what one person says on anything.

Thanks for all your help Scifi...Generally speaking, how loud are external pumps supposed to be? Just a slight background hum or a noise you can hear three rooms away? How would you describe it? No way my girlfriend will let me keep this tank if this noise comes with it

Mag 7 would be perfect for you. They are great dependable pumps at a pretty good price too.
