Help me with noise issues! Please!
So, got my tank up and going, did a water check and no leaks! The problem is threefold: The Panworld pump I use is really, really loud. I plan to take it apart and check it, and replace if it is faulty.
My other two problems: This picture is the inlet to my sump; the water flowing down through the filter socks is causing a good bit of noise trouble, can I go any lower? Any fixes? This picture is my siphon hole; I had issues getting the PVC low enough to even get near the water level (Ive read the siphon hole should be underwater when filled) because of the way the slots are cut out in the overflow. This thing is also, really really loud. Any ideas? |

Try puting the pump on a rubber pad (mouse pads work well) and be sure it does not make contact with the tank or sump walls. I would use a length of flex pipe down to below the water line for your filter socks. You could then pull the line out of the way to change the filters. Try a durso standpipe, there are east to follow plans in the DIY forum.

#1..Hold the pump in your hands..if it's quite enough when you do that your solution is what thegrun said..find a way to control vibration noises. If it's still loud when you're holding it, you're probably SOL.
#2..Extend the pvc so it's underwater, but if there is too much air in there it will still be noisy. Besides the noise, you're going to get some serious salt creep there where the water is splashing. #3..Is it the siphon break that is noisy?..or the overflowing water through the teeth. If it's the teeth you have to move your durso mod up a bit to make it as high as possible if it's not already. There will always be some splashing, but the higher up the waterline the quieter it will be. As for the siphon break hole..you should submerge it just below the water line, if not you need to aim it a wall or something other than water. |
