Lee Mar rimless max tank height

Well i have been getting quotes for a new Lee Mar rimless tank 48x24x24 but a few LFS have told me that lee Mar will not build a rimless tank at 24" tall is this true? If so what is the max height they will build? Oh does a euro tank and euro rimless and brace less tank the same thing?

They built my 175g 28" tall but it was euro braced. Just no center brace.

never heard of euro tank...

euro brace is usually made with multiple glass planes on the top...

1 piece euro brace are usually in acrylic tanks... they just get one huge piece of acrylic, usually thicker than the tank's, and cut a giant hole on the top...

and rimless...

it might be true... maybe they would need very thick glass to make it 24" tall... won't be cost effective...

If they don't want to build it I certainly wouldn't want it.

IMO, Eurobracing is not bad at all. I have a leemar Eurobraced tank and the Eurobracing in only a 4" piece of glass around the top. It also helps keep the water in when it's get sloshed around from cleaning or earthquakes. JMO though

The rimless tanks look nice, no doubt about it. IMO, its just a matter of time before we see failure.

The Euro bracing makes the tanks stronger and helps keep the water in. That's a good thing.

puggsli1, have you tried calling Lee Mar?

I got a quote from Leemar a few months back for the same dimensions and they will only do a 24" height euro-braced. They don't do that high for rimless tanks from what I was told. The glass thickness of the entire tank was 1/2 inch. The euro-bracing isn't even that wide and it looks good imo. Btw, that add you saw or had emailed meant euro braced for the 24" height tank .I got an email like that a while back and clarified it. Good luck on your future tank!

puggsli1 - How high are you planning to have the stand? If you want the stand high enough to put a skimmer, etc. in, then you might be fine with taller euro-braced tank as you and most other people won't be able to look into it from the top without a step-stool anyway.

LeeMar will build a 24" rimless with tempered glass. No euro bracing required. I ran into the same issue before i purchased my tank a year ago.(48" 24" x 24")

I was thinking 36" high for the stand.

lee mar will only go 20 high on a rimless, I would not want to go higher unless they upgrade to the UV activated adhesive

I have a Rimless and I would never do it again. First off my snails climb out almost daily. Then every time I clean the glass everything get wet. And no one can tell execpt when you turn everything off and want to take a picture. Plus I worry all the time about it failing.

It just seems to me that calling the source would be the way to go rather then asking here. Not knocking anybody. Tons and tons of knowledge visit this forum, no doubt about that.

I've had two custom tanks built by LM, both times I've had no problems calling them. This was awhile back when Tom was around.

Good luck.......IME, Lee Mar makes the nicest tanks around.

the reason they wont build it rimless is because the water volume excedes 100g. you'll get that with a lot of companies, its not leemar being picky. they would need to use 5/8" glass, which gets pretty pricey and cuts down a lot of clarity, i dont even think you can get low iron glass from the starfire company that thick, other companies make low iron, but i dont know their names or their prices im sure thicker low iron glass gets expensive.

I currently own a 48"x24"x20" LeeMar Rimless tank with Starphire on 3 panels.... never got a quote for anything taller. Beautiful craftsmanship on their tanks, now if I can just get it out of the plastic wrap and build a stand.

I ordered a Leemar tank a couple months ago - I was told 20" was max for rimless.
