few questions
So I just got back into the hobby and back on this site... So of course I am no longer Johnny&Sin and question
1: how do I change my screen name on here? 2: I am now doing this alone and I have a 125 gallon tank, I have a few fish now and want to get back into reef, what is my ideal salinity? 3.I have a few fish but I can't seem to keep yellow tangs alive? I had a yellow tang before with no problem in my old tank... Everytime I have my water tested (once a week) the coral shop says its perfect... what could be wrong? (I drip acclimate) 4.How do I post pics of my tank on this site? 5. How does everyone feel about chemicals in the tank? Some reef shops tell me to add chems and some say let it be natural... I'm confused Thanks Sindy |

Dont think you can change your name?
Depends if you have corals and inverts, 1.026 is good for reef tanks but if you have no corals or inverts dont stress about it being low, they prefer it that way Maybe your supplier, is it eating, what are you feeding them, what are your parameters and tank mates Host them on photobucket or a similar site and post the code they give you, or add them as thumbnail. Depends on what chemicals your talking about. |

As for your tang's - start a quarantine tank and get all your fish in there for a while, let your tank go fishless for a month or two. While your tank is fishless, the fish in QT can get used to your feeding habits and you can treat the fish for any problems in the QT vice. doing it in the big tank. |

If you go to the Feedback and Questions forum, you can ask for a name change. You are only allowed one name change, so make it something you know you'll keep.
What kind of lighting do you have over your tank? How old are the bulbs. The types of corals you can keep will depend on the lighting you have. The only thing you will probably need to dose would be calcium, alkilinity and magnesium, but you will want to have test kits to check your parameters before you start dosing anything. For now, since you only have fish, water changes will keep your parameters stable. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php

Thanks everyone for all ur help!!!
I just had my water tested again and EVERYTHING was perfect!! salinity 1.025 Ph 8.2 phosphates 0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0 calcium 420 (I am dosing for cal haven't started with much coral yet a couple rics and zoas) should I test for anything else? once again so I bought a yellow tang and this will be my final test, it seems to be doing GREAT (alot better than the others at this point did) I'm hoping it was just where I was getting the fish before! As far as lighting I have metal halide 14k atinics and leds the light fixture and bulbs are as old as the setup about 3 months old I did a 3 month cycle with live rock and live sand and 1 domino damsel and 1 green chromis |

OMG!! If you can...get RID of the Domino!! He will turn into a Terror and kill everything he can. I had one who did this, as many other reefers here. My domino ended up killing a borbonius anthias on me, which is a $130 fish
Can't wait to see some pics of your tank!!!

OMG really!?! He has been great with all my fish, my 2 clowns do bully him around though! I haven't ever had a problem with the dominos even in my old tanks, the only damsel that used to give me hell was a yellow tail, and I had to take every piece of live rock out to get him out!!! I hope he doesn't turn terror on me because I don't want to have to break down the tank becasue of him!!!

That looks great. When you do start adding corals, you'll want to test for alkilinity and magnesium as well.

My domino killed my yellow tang. He starved it and bullied it. That might be your problem. Good luck removing him.

Tank looks great!!
IMO..you should get him out now before you add corals!! It will be that much harder to get him out!! Also, good luck adding new fish down the line if you keep him The borbonius was not the only fish he killed His last fish he tried to kill was 3x his size...a Blue Indigo Hamlet. When this started, thats when I had enough and evicted him!! Inpatient Therapy just wasn't working!! Good luck with whatever you decide!! I know its hard to give up a fish!! My eyes watered up (lol) when I finally gave up my Domino...his name was Zebi.. He now lives in a 125g tank with other very aggressive fish. Owner tells me he is doing great
