I'm a weird person

Hi all, well as the title says, i am weird, why you ask, because i love posts that start with "TANK CRASHED", i don't know, i just love those post, i have learned a LOT from them:

My tank crashed yesterday because i lost power
NOTE TO SELF "buy a generator"

My tank crashed because my top off is conected to my kalk reactor and poured to much kalk
NOTE TO SELF "don't put a kalk reactor in-line with auto top off"

My tank crashed yesterday because my GFI tripped because water go into the electricity strip
NOTE TO SELF "hang the strips high with a drip loop on cord"

My tank crashed yesterday because i lost a lot of water and had to make up with tap water
NOTE TO SELF "dont use tap water, store some r/o water for emergencies"

My tank crashed yesterday for no apparent reason
NOTE TO SELF "i am F******d"

My tank crashed because i took a vacation
NOTE TO SELF "i am going to enjoy this vacation even if it kills me, oh have someone look at the tank"

My tank is crashing because AEFW, red bugs, nudies got into my system
NOTE TO SELF "at least dip the corals"

My tank is crashing and all params check out except alk
NOTE TO SELF "keep alk balanced" PS "very important"

My tank is crashing because i sprung a leak
NOTE TO SELF "get some plastic bins just in case of emergency"

My tank crashed because my temp was at 90
NOTE TO SELF "dont let it get up to 90"

got lots more, but if you have any, please share, BTW i am not trying to make fun at others people misfortunes....

i am a firm believer that the more stuff you have attached to your system, the more that can go wrong... i think less is more, and simple is better... no dosers, reactors, probes or controllers here, no kalk drip, no extensive lighting system... jus alot of diligence, maintenance (which i actually enjoy doing after even a year of sps, and 5 years of saltwater) and manual application... applications to ease and endorse laziness, will only lead to disaster from something absolutely stupid happening...

this is jmo, nothing more...

My tank didn't crash but nothing grew for like 6 months because my salinity was 1.032 the whole time! my refractometer was really really old. Once I brought the salt down things looked Much better. and they grow now too!
NOTE TO SELF: "dont cheap out on important equipment"

I agree with a lot you said, but as far as automation it helps tremendously for stability and you can enjoy your tank more! I do believe some people go overboard on automation. Having an auto top off is one of the best things you can have and removes a huge chore. Also, dosers and calcium reactors can be very beneficial. If I were to choose a doser or a calcium reactor the doser would win every time. Calcium reactor have too much potential for errors imo Have you ever tried automating things?
