29g biocube brown algae
Hey guys. So far our 29 gallon biocube is looking good.
We sorta jumped in too fast at first with adding a fish and a condyluctis anemone. But after a week in a half from their arrival the water perimeters are looking good. But we have ran into some algae. I have looked it up and it seems to be Brown Algae (Diatoms) Sites say there are different ways to get rid of it, but I was wondering if some of you could tell me your says of getting rid of it from your experience. Thanks. |

Everything looks fine..
We have a CUC of 9 snails 5 hermits and a emerald crab. The fish and the anemone look great, no weird activity. According to what everyone say I hope and think its just from it being a new tank. Is the only thing I can do is wait it out, and just do my normal weekly water change? I've checked the water parameters and its all in the limit. |

You probably don't know any better, but a anemone should not be put in a new tank. Also the stock pc light is not going to be enough for the nem either. It will likely die, or you may get lucky if you upgrade your light. Check out nanotuners.com

The Condy will be fine as long as you don't have a PH for it to get sucked into, that's what happened to mine.
The diatoms will go away with time, it's part of the cycle. I would highly recommend getting some Astera snails for your CC. Happy Reefing. |

We've actually been looking for a light upgrade.
I'll check out nanotuners.com What would you suggest for us to get? All i want to do is make my tank thrive. |

I had a BAD Diatom bloom for about 2 months. First off, clean your Coral off useing a Turkey baster. Do you use tap water for water changes? Not a good thing if you are. If you are, do a water change useing distilled water to mix your tank water SOON. I used Phos Gard to get any remaining Phosphate, and Silica out also.Good luck!

Alright.. I occasionally use a turkey baster to get debris off the rocks.
We are using tap water with water conditioner but now we are going to a private fish store near us that sells R/O salt mix water. Thats what we will get every week for water changes now. |

I wish you luck. nanotuners is a great resource to upgrade lighting. You will need it for the Nem for shure. Anemones should not be put in a tank that is not mature (i.e. less than 6 months old). If we new how old your tank was we could tell you if it was the typical new cycle diatom bloom or another possible issue. Also, pictures, just so the experienced people on here can verify, yup that's a diatom bloom, or no you have blah blah blah.
Again best of luck and welcome to the club!
