Aga overflow making air hole bigger stop it from chugging?

Just recently changed my setup to a basement sump. Got it all dialed in but every so often it "chugs" in the basement. The drain is about a 1/2 inch off the water. I'm curious if making the air hole bigger on top of the drain would elimnate the chugging. Thanks
