GPH for media reactors?

I was just wondering how much GPH should I have for my media reactors. One reactor will have pellets and the other most likely some activated carbon. This is for a 50 gallon build.

Store bought reactors or DIY? If store bought list the manufacture, I'm sure some one will have some input.

One of them is the new next reef biopellets reactor and the other is a vertex UF-15 media reactor

generally speaking slow flow is better then fast flow for 2 reasons:

1) increased contact time

2) faster flows can over tumble the media and esentially pulverise it into dust, this os very comon with the chucky type carbon

But if to slow the media can solidfy from calcium build up, especially in GFO

If the media is packed in between two filter sponges you can increase flow. For GFO and carbon I'll usually fill the reactor about 1/3 the way and adjust the flow so there is a little bit of tumbling on the top layer.

a lot of people will use a mj12

but, consider adding a branch line from your main return, the flow demand is low enough a secondary pump is usually not merited.

I show one here on a MAG 9.5 return pump on my 110g build I did the same on my 300g tank
