clogging carbon in phosban reactor

I currently run 2 linked phosban reactors, one with carbon (BRS ROX carbon) and one with GFO (BRS high capacity). The pumps are hooked up to a maxijet 400 pump which is connected first to the carbon reactor, then to the GFO reactor. The flow is reduced via the valve to a slow flow rate.

Lately I've been having a problem with the carbon clogging in the reactor, thereby blocking the flow of water. I think this is exacerbated by the fact that I dose vodka, and so occasionally have bacterial growth in my sump.

What can I do about this? I currently have to change my carbon every few days or else the flow stops completely.
