Noob sand question

Hi guys,

I my tank filled with salt water and I have my aquascape set with my dry rock. I ordered 80 pounds of Carib special grade reef sand that should be here the middle of next week.

My questions are whats the procedure for adding sand?

Should I rinse it?

Are there any tricks to avoid getting sand into every crevice in my rock?

Any other basic information like should I turn my return pump and powerheads off?

What type of sand are you planning on putting in the tank?

As for how to add it what I usually do is add it cup by cup close to the bottom of the tank to avoid the sand storm. with using a cup it makes it easier to get the sand where you want it.

Edit: never mind the first question.... I missed the type of sand. If it's not live sand then yes rinse it prior to adding it to the tank.

Def rinse it. Get a ziploc bag rinse that too. Fill ziploc with sand, lower it to bottom of tank and slowly dump sand out. This works great and will give you the least sand storm. Turn pumps and all current off.
