Best way to clean the glass on the outside?

Serious Noob question huh? I'm thinking a cloth with warm water. Any suggestions?

There are some reef safe cloths out there that clean the tank.

What I use is normal old glass cleaner, I spray a cloth far away from the tank and them go clean the glass. Many people will disagree with this tactic but it has worked for me.

I get 2 paper towels. Dampen one and wipe glass with it, then take dry paper towel and buff it out works great for me! You can also use coffee filters, just add a touch of vinegar on it and wipe. It helps when you have some icky spots from dried saltwater and/or bad streaks.

For me...if I have waterspots, I use water and Viva paper towels. Then polish up with one of those microfiber cloths. (similar to this one http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...kroom-_-608446)

I use the microfiber cloths alone if I am just wiping fingerprints off.

i have a spray bottle with RO/DI water for my mangrove in my sump and when my glass is dirty on the outside i will spray the glass with the RO/DI water ( it will not leave any streaks behind) and then i wipe it away with a micro-fiber towel. it works perfectly.

i try to do it weekly.

I use a hand held squeegy from the automotive section at Wallyworld with the sqeegy on one side and sponge on the other. Dampen the sponge and sqeegy the glass just like you would the windshield of your car. Quick and easy and no chemicals near the tank.

i spray the paper towel away from the tank with windex and then walk over to the tank and wipe it down. Do it almost everyday with no problems.

I don't like glass cleaners. Maybe I'm paranoid but I'm too afraid of the chemicals somehow leaching into the water. Microfiber cloth all the way. First I wet the glass with a wet paper towel then I polish and dry it with the microfiber. Cleans it streak free everytime.

+1 microfiber cloths, just use two, first one to wipe up any drips then the other to buff. its nice being able to wash them and not having to have a roll of paper towels near by

Always been a fan of using newspaper and windex. If you are afraid of getting windex in the water just spray the newspaper directly. Newspaper leaves no streaks, and it gives you something to read while buffing.

I have acrylic so I need be more careful than others but I love these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

I use them on my tank for a while, then "demote" them to household chores. I'm still on my first 12 pack and it's been a year.

I use dollar store glass cleaner with no ammonia. Spray it on the tank glass and wipe it with newspaper. Haven't killed anything yet, so it works for me.

The best stuff i have ever used and use it to this day is invisible glass. It comes in a can. I used it on my show cars and use it to clean my tank glass. Works so much better than windex and doesnt streak or cloud. A can would last several years if your just using it for the tank.

Heck, I spray Windex right onto the glass -- just at a downward angle. Have been doing it that way since 1992 and never had any issues.

Sandpaper....8-).....just kidding.

I just spray the glass with window cleaner and wipe it clean, then go over it with a dry paper towel to get it nice and shiny clean.

Like thebkramer, I use the two towel method. But, I put the wet towel in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds on high. Heats it to the point where I can just barely tolerated it. But, it really cleans the glass up quick. Second towel, dry, buffs it all up nice. Then, I wrap the wet towel in the (now, not so) dry towel, and use that mess to clean up the trim parts where salt seems to crystalize.
