anemone hiding

I have a carpet anemone that has just recently decided to hide completely in a cave type area at the bottom of my tank. There is absolutely no way to feed it there.

Will it eventually come out for light? Right now, it is in darkness. Is there a reason for this type of behaviour? Any suggestions to coax it out? It will probably die in a month or so without food.

The only thing I can think of as to why it went in there is that the clown that it is hosting is very aggressive towards it. It will try to snatch it's food and will from time to time abuse it in some way or another. However, this has been going on for months with no action taken on the anemone's part. Maybe it just got fed up.

Oh... you can expect that bad boy to start moving again pretty soon. no food+ no light = anemone that's about to relocate.

How long has he/she been there?

I just wanted to comment on the feeding of your carpet anemone. You don't need to. I see so many people that target feed anemones stuff like silversides and krill. Don't do it. If you watch the anemone for like an hour after feeding it, they just regurgitate most of the food back up undigested. It adds a huge amount of waste to the tank. The anemones are photosynthetic and they will get some of the extra food when you feed your fish. I have had carpets live many years and I never target fed. There is no need.

Interesting. Not feeding it will make it easier.

To answer the first question, it's only been hiding for a few days.

my BTA did the same thing. Hid under a cave/rocks for 3 days or so. Thought u'd never get to see him. He eventually came out and moved. I thought he was afraid of the light.
