Metal Halide Retro Fit - Do I need a Glass Shield?

Hi All,

I am going to be purchasing a MH Retro Fit Kit, and the kit comes with a Everything Else I Need, but i remember reading something about a Glass Shield is needed for MH?

Can somebody give me more details about this?

The way I am hooking up the MH Retro Fit Kit, the reflector is going to be screwed to a bored, then the bored is gonna be mounted to the ceiling with a quick pulley system to raise or lower the MH system as needed.

Then all of a sudden, it just hit me "Wait a min, dont I need a glass shield?"

I have no experience with MH Lighting systems and/or Glass Shields at all, so any help/info would be great!

Glass shields are required for double ended halide bulbs... Single ended halide bulbs are shielded and do not require glass, however some use them anyway to keep salt creep from the inside of their reflector.

I'm in Huntington. Just South of Richmond. 30 minutes from Burlington.
