FS: mated pair of harlequin shrimps plus RARE male Hawaiian harlequin shrimp

Hello,

Letting go of these 3 shrimps:

mated pair of harlequin shrimps $60

single male Hawaiian harlequin shrimp - It's rare because I haven't seen it at the LFS for 3-4 years, and only saw it twice online for sale. The Hawaiian harlequin shrimps are a true beauty. They are purple and white instead of the traditional pink/blue colors of the indo harlequin shrimps. This rare specimen will be $90.

I'd like these to go to good homes where they will be fed regularly with choco stars.

PM if interested. Thanks for looking.

i wish... how bad does that choco star pollute the waters in the tank once dead and decomposing?? thats my only worry... i have aways wanted some of these but never pulled the trigger due to possible exploding nutrients... thanks for any info you can give

If you have a good skimmer then you'll have no worries. I have the pair in a 10g with a very small "filter" and the water quality is great. I do however, do water changes once a week, but I do that out of habit when I change water for my display.

One choco star will last a couple weeks with a pair of shrimps.

The shrimp will pair well with an indo harlequin female which will be easier to obtain. If you can raise the eggs, it'll be interesting to see what the young look like.

also:

I've heard someone buy a whole bunch of chocolate chip starfish, which is pretty cheap and freezing them. When feeding them, you just break off part of the legs and drop it in the water.

true or false?

I had a harlequin for over 2 years and the only problem with feeding them dead choco starfish is the uneaten part starts to decay. While if you feed it a live choco starfish the chocolate chip's body is still alive till the harlequin eats its center ( the core) which keeps the water free of nitrites.
However be sure to clean the white "pebbles" that are left behind when the starfish is completely eaten

Females have blue stripes under their abdomen, and compared to a male of the same length their body is also larger/wider due to having to carry eggs

White pebbles are the fleshy part of the choco stars that the shrimps do not eat. They only eat the feet of the stars.

And yes you can buy a bunch and freeze the stars, and feed them legs.

or you can just buy a bunch of starfish and cut off one leg of a starfish for one feeding and throw it back in the sump to regrow. With a bunch of starfish, you can always rotate between them.
Btw..Harlequins are totally awesome to watch.I'd buy these in an instant if my new tank was setup.

I have read/heard of 3-5 specimens co-existing in one tank. However I have not tried it in my systems.

If the shrimps are already mated pairs, I would keep only one pair in a small tank. If the tank is large I think it is possible to keep more than one pair or have pair/singles.

Price drop on the shrimps before I start offering shipping on them:

Pair of Indo harlequin shrimps - $50
Single male Hawaiian harlequin shrimp - $80

Some people asked for pics of the pair, so I took a couple tonight. They're under really old pc lighting so excuse the color of the lights:

I will throw in a choco star as well!

I only have the single Hawaiian one left, and I think it might have turned female on me.

If you're interested let me know I'll give you a better deal on it. It's sitting in my sump right now.
