ati sunpower why its a par monster

i found out doing some research and found a web site called leonardos reef and he took ati fixture apart and found out they drive there 39 watt bulbs with a 2x54w ballast and that overdrives the bulbs producing more light.i know the reflectors pay apart and does cooling.i never knew ya can use a stronger ballast to overdrive the bulbs i always thought ya neede a icecap ballast to do that.would like to know if anyone else had theres apart and found out to that this is true.

There are many fixtures out there that over drive t-5 bulbs.

Just make sure if you get one that it cools the vbulbs well and also know that your bulb life will be shortened.

Can someone verify this claim? It seems strange to me that a company that uses proper t5 ballasts would not used the standard wattage.

Wouldn't there be a noticeable color shift in the respective bulbs if they were this overdriven?

From all of my research and talking with Greg at Reefgeek, they do NOT use incorrect ballasts like that. A 54 watt fixture will use a ballast meant to run 54 watt bulbs.

You will probably find out that a 24 watt fixture has a ballast that can run either 24 or 39 watt bulbs but the ballast chooses which is the correct wattage.

I agree with this as well. Throw the fixture on a killawatt and it will be drawing the correct wattage.

They are PAR monsters because they use the correct ballasts, the best reflectors, and they are actively cooled.
