New 120G Reef Tank
Hello Everybody,
I am in the process of upgrading to a 120G reef tank. For my sump (30 gallon) configuration I was given a few options from my fish guy. Option 1 If I want to go with a G4 skimmer, I will not able to set up a refugium. Option 2 Go with a G2 skimmer, which can be fit into a the drain chamber and use the second chamber as the refugium. For both instances I can plumb either a 25W or 57W Aqua UV? What should I go with? What will be the best option for a reef tank? appreciate any advise? Thank you |

Go with a fuge if at all possible. DSB and live rubble will help you out.

The fuge option would be the better choice. Having a fuge and growing macro will help export excess phosphates and nitrates.

Make sure your return section is large enough so that you can lose some water and not run your pump dry, especially if you don't use an ATO system. IMO, a UV system isn't that useful for a reef system but I think you will find opinions either way. I've found a carbon reactor to be much more effective in cleaning the water.

Thank you guys for all the input. Yep I have enough room for the return. I am using the UV, mainly as a parasite eliminator. To prevent outbreaks.
