How to feed Roggers Reef Food

How do you feed your fish with Roggers? I know on his website the best way to feed is using a mesh clip but I just let a small piece defrost in a cup of water.

Ummmm just like any other frozen food....I dont even do that with mine I thaw whatever im feeding in the DT after rinsing it ....just hold it and swirl it around till its thawed..... most of my fish will eat from my hand.... just tear off a piece when its ready and hand it to them....a few are just too shy because of the size of some of the others and they eat as the others drop (mysis is everyones favorite and it usually just sink as it thaws)

Rogers food is way much better when used from a clip(u can buy it from the site)
basically the advantage of the food when compared to every other reef food that I've tried over 20 years is it's consistency.

While many other foods go to waste, this one in the clip with a mesh stays together and fish will eat w/o excess everywhere in the tank.

The fine particles such as cycloeeze and others get used by your filter feeders and corals.

So IMHO to take full adavantage of the product is best to be fed from a clip/mesh

I disagree ,,every other frozen food fed like u are describing causes excess nutrients that eventually pollute your tank. This mix will stay put and will be eaten or discarded by user, until they figure out an amount that the fish in the tank will eat in let's say 5mins. Gtg

only excess in my tank is in their bellies when it comes out the other end lol.....most of them take it from my hand so anything left is gone within seconds of it being introduced.....

I do agree though excess nutrients can eventually pollute your tank when it happens

In my case after rinsing it when I feed them it aint getting a chance to do that in my tank its lucky if it has two seconds in my hand to their mouths sometimes its lucky to even see the water... my vlamingi takes it as its being reached over the top of the dt

....and arnt your forgetting the most important thing about Rogers food there aint any excess nutrients as it all gets eaten in seconds.... and there is no nitrates or phosphates

I am with Manny on this one Rogger’s clip or similar devise. I have thrown it in my sump to be shredded by the pump and spread via the return but a small piece at a time to reduce waste and prevent it from getting stuck in the impeller.

I also used Rogger's clip and mesh to feed my fish. Some fish like the goby or jawfish I will turn my powerheads off for 10 minutes so the food will reach the bottom of the tank.

There is no need to rinse Rogger's food since it is not water diluted. Also by rinsing the food you are washing away the selcon and cyclpeeze. The food itself is so compact that the food holds together and does not come apart to polluted the DT water.

I also feed cyclpeeze on its own so I ain't sweating it along with mysis, blood worms, krill, thera +A, red purple and green seaweed on a daily basis and every once in a while brine shrimp so whether some rinses off or not its all good....plus rinsing is a good habit to keep and if I start doing it with some frozen food and not others I tend to get out of the habit.

I have seen Roger feed it to his tank. He brakes off a piece frozen, puts in it a mesh clip and in it goes. That way the fish eat off the parts as they thaw and it does not wash away.

I wonder why feed all of those when u can have them all in one. Just seems like a waste of time and money.
Been there and done that myself.

I WAS thawing it and feeding it that way until I learned that its intended to be fed on a mesh clip (hence the selcon) ... I now use the clip and its great! The food stays on the clip and if the fish dont eat it all at once its still ther for them to graze on for up to a hour or 2... I also wouldnt rinse it since all your doing is rinsing away GOOD stuff!

i don't like using the clip because my anthias don't usually pick on the food. How do you guys get your Roggers reeffood to thaw and break up into pieces? I always thaw it in a cup and break it up into "almost-bite-size" pieces with my turkey baster but a lot of the times, they are too big for my fishes mouths.

+1 I just switched over to Roggers food and I am using the clip. The beauty of that system is that the food will stay in that mesh clip for hours and the fish can graze at their convenience. This is a much more natural style of eating for them. The ones that are too shy to eat from the clip get fed when I shake it a bit and release some manually.

I used to use the baster method but its not good for the Roggers food because the food is difficult to break down enough for the baster. Use the bag and shake the bag for the anthias. I had to do this for my chromis at first, but now the chromis eat from the bag too. They will adapt over time.

See you learn something new everyday. Lol I just started using Rogers food last week and I've been thawing it in a cup with water. And smashing it up with the turkey blaster and squirting it it a bit at a time with the pumps off so the food doesn't go everywhere.
But I'm going to buy the clip now...

I break a piece off, dice it up and thaw it in a cup of tank water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, swish it up with the baster, and then squirt it into the tank in portions. Been doing this since I first started using Rogers foods.

I'll give the clip a try and see how that goes

Ive done all of the above, and by far the clip is the easiest. You just put the food in it and forget. Fish graze on it and the shy ones just sit back and wait for the floating parts as its torn apart by the others.

I crazy glued the clip to an extra magnet I had. It sits to the side of the tank when not in use.

I do the same thing. I only have a few small fish, so I dice up a little piece while frozen, then let it thaw in a cup of tank water and feed small portions throughout the day. I would use the clip method but I only have 2 Helfrichi firefish, 1 percula, and 1 red mandarin.
