changing water, how many gallons should I do

Hi

Right now in my 30 gallon tank with hang on Refug has extreme high nitrate (death of anemone) (ammonia and nitrite is 0)

Anybody has any suggestion on how many gallons should I do first as I am trying to get it back to 10 or lower. I did 5 gallon last night but not much going on.

I am thinking of 10 today and every day 10 to lower it back to 10 or lower.

any thoughts?

thanks

5gals is a pretty good amount of water for a 30gal. i personally would stick with that and try running carbon.

How old is your tank? How many fish do you have in there? When was the last water change when you First noticed Nitrates rose?
How often are you feeding? Do you have an macro algae??

I agree 5g sounds good! Just keep an eye on all params at same time. You also don't want to take out too much beneficial bacteria from your tank.

I'd stick with the 5 gallons. He already said that he has a hang on refugium....Possibly with Chaeto already in it?
