Advice/Opinions on Aqua Medic Turboflotor 1000?

I've seen a lot of reviews and pics of this skimmer and so far I like it (but that could change with RC advice.

Also fyi - this will be a HOB necessary skimmer.

Thanks ahead of time everyone!

I have the Multi version of that skimmer. It's a little tricky to get the flow right, especially since I have it HOB in the sump where the water level fluctuates with evap. I plan to use it HOB on the new tank, where the water level is constant. Otherwise, I find it an excellent skimmer for the price.

I have the blue version.
I dry to set it to dry skim and it actually wet skims. Which could be good, but I have too much evaporation.
Other than that it looks like a good skimmer. A lot of microbubbles that collect the nasty stuff.

Yes I have had two of these skimmers, they are just as good, or bad as any other, ie, Coralife 125, RedSea Berlin 250, etc. They all are sensative to back pressure, and head. The Ocean Runner pump that usually goes with the Aquamedic is pretty good. the two valves on the skimmer used to control back pressure are nice, but it really depends on how much water the pump is set in. Consistantly shallow water level helps these produce a dryer thick skimmate. Let it be know that this skimmmer will overflow if the pump is in deeper water, mine is skimming very wet and overflowing with the pump under about 11" of the fuge. You will want some type of catch container to set the skimmer in if HOB just in case of over flow, plus if your skimmate container does not already have a drain line, you should tap & silicone one in. Over all good skimmer if set up right, but personally I prefer the Coralife 125, which alot of people think is a joke, but I wish I had mine back.
your mileage will vary...

One more thing what ever skimmer you use try to place a filter sock to catch the effluent of the skimmer. you will be amazed at what you skimmer does not remove even when it's dialed in. Using the sock will help level out water quality if the skimmers performace varies.
