Tank placement- you pick!

I'm moving soon and I'm pretty clueless as to where I should put my tank.

I have some photos of the place. So I figured you could give me your opinions on the matter. Where would you put my tank?

It's a 36g bowfront high and the tank and stand together weigh in @ around 600+ lbs. I think this means I can't put it in the loft. What do you think?

Here's the link:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hn...786475639.html

My concern with putting it in the living room, is that it might be too much traffic and I'm afraid of some stupid accident leaving me with a lot of heartbreak. I wanna keep it off the beaten path. Would the basement be a possible candidate? Any objections to keeping a reef tank in the basement? As you can see, there is a window down there, too.

Thanks a bunch!

Somewhere under those skylights would be my preference. Nice place BTW!

Since you live close, you should put it in my house .

Otherwise, the basement is good for leaks and spills which will happen, but the loft will support a tank that size no problem.

lol

Nice Avatar!

You really think the loft will be okay? I figured since it has no direct support underneath that it would be a bad idea. I would love to put it up there!

Thanks

Ha, thanks.

Anyway, yeah, the loft should be fine. I'm not an engineer, and I can't see it, but a 36 gallon tank is small. Put the tank next to an exterior wall and maybe just be careful about bringing 10 people up there at once to go see the tank. I would also check to see if there is any movement while walking up there. Having the tank slosh around while walking past it might be hazardous.

For a 36gal you can almost put it anywhere. I would put it where you're going to spend the most amount of time, somewhere where you can enjoy it all the time.

Is there a sink in the loft? Don't forget about lugging water, etc. up and down stairs.

Good point. I was thinking of that, as well. There is a bathroom right down the hall, but I'm not sure if I want to put my RO unit there, or in the kitchen downstairs.

I would have the same problem in the basement, too. In kind of a qawinkidink here.

The loft is the ideal spot for me. I would love to put it there. Does anyone else have an opinion on that spot? Also, my stand is homemade and pretty heavy. So, maybe 600-700 lbs total. I just wanna make certain I won't destroy my new place.

Thnx

Another vote for the loft! Don't worry AT ALL about that size tank up there. I had a 72G on my second floor and our houses look to be about the same type of construction. You know, well built but not like the good ol' days. Anyways, when I was doing research on putting a 125G on the second floor pretty much every piece of information I read stated that you don't need to worry about anything under 80G.
