To SCWD or Sea swirl?
On a 75g. I'm tempted to use the SCWD for the return pump to vary the flow, along with a vortech powerhead.
Or should I sea swirl instead? I'm looking at this SCWD: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewit...content=3Q1113 I'll split the return from a 1" out of the return pump to the SCWD, then split 'em to either side of the 75g, or I'll use the center standpipes and face the outlets toward either side. Either way, SCWD or sea swirl?

SCWD will fail over time if you do not clean it every month.
I would try the sea swirl but I have no experience with them.

I prefered the sea swirl over the SCWD. As stated the SCWD needs to be kept clean and does add some back pressure to the return pump .

You'll also lose a lot of GPH with a SQWD. I vote for a sea swirl or a MOcean.

Seaswirl for sure, but they're spendy. Might be better off with another vortech.

I have a 120gal with a sea swirl. No dead spots in the tank and I don't have any additional powerheads.

In the past six months, I read two other threads about combining sea swirls with vortechs. If I remember correctly, the consensus was to combine them. You may want to search this forum or the filtration, lighting, equipment forum to find those threads and ask the OPs if they ultimately used both sea swirls and vortechs. They may be willing to share their experience.

Yeah it's more pricey but I needed the head to rotate more than 90 degrees. I've been using it for 7 months and so far so good (knock on wood)

I was much more into SCWD OM...and ended up with 3 CL on my tank without the output Iget with a single Vortech MP40. and that's a 150G.
I would say start with a single Mp40 and return pump which will be more than enough till your tank fills up and grows and if then yo ufell it needs a bit more flow then you could add another.
