My Royal Gramma sucks!!

I am not sure what the deal is but he swims every which way but the right way. No, its not a bladder problem, that I am aware of, as he/she can float just fine in mid tank. After that, he/she floats leaning to the side slightly down like a sinking battle ship, or, straight up and down and everything in between! The only thing he/she does not do is swim normally!? I cant get rid of him/her because he/she is a model citizen with a good personality, though, it is really throwing off my fungshuay, or should I say fishshway.

That was pretty uncalled for. This website is to help people out, not ridicule them because they asked a question that you considered selfish. Sorry about that csm, sometimes people on this website forget to take their happy pills. If you don't think it's a swim bladder problem, my best guess is that maybe it has some fin damage that is keeping it off balance? Post a picture and maybe that can help a little bit.

Thanks but I thought he was kinda funny, lol.

I do not think there is anything "health wise" wrong with him. I just think that is the way he is. This was more of a rant, maybe selfish like he said, lol, than anything. I am like Monk when it comes to my fish, everything has to be perfect. Maybe I am sick? Oh, wait, no question about that, but, doesnt change the fact that my fish floats around (not swims around) like a lisping battle ship.

Your in Tampa? Thats too funny! My best girl/friend is visiting her parents there this weekend, lol.

actually that is normal, mines swims in the same pettern, and most times swim upside down in between the rocks. i have two in my tank for two years. csmfish no need to worry.

It wasn't uncalled for, it was selfish of the OP. He isn't concerned about the fish, he's concerned about his feng shui. My opinion is that he/she is too immature to properly care for living animals.

Everything isn't going to be "perfect" all the time. It's fine if the fish is healthy and you were just ranting about the fish's quirks, but you need to understand that buying an animal entails more than making it an empty accessory to your house's decor.

My stupid RG does the same things. It's either hiding upside down in a cave or opening it's mouth trying to scare somebody--what a ***** !!

Here is a harem I saw in the Caymans a couple of week ago:
From Cayman OF, Babylon, Stingray City, Snapper Hole--6-2-10

They are also retarted in nature as well, look at them going in every direction !!

Here are some Black Caps looking a little more intelligent:
From Cayman OF, Babylon, Stingray City, Snapper Hole--6-2-10

The RG were everywhere, no wonder they are $8. Mine is a good citizen as well, so I'll not flush him for being a freak!!!!!

I'd probably flush HippieSmellsBad down the toilet, however. It appears it is more retarted than a RG !!!

It's not defective, it's something royal grammas do. They orient themselves so that they're parallel to whatever surface they're near, even if it means turning upside down. Probably the fish version of keeping yer back to the wall.

I had a blue green chromis who I thought was retarded. He floundered around away from the other chromis and floated near the top of the water. More than once I thought about putting him out of his misery but I hoped he would get better. One day he straightened out and joined the other chromis. He has been fine ever since. So you never know how it will turn out. Good luck and hang in there with the fish.

are you vodka dosing? maybe he's just tipsy or like the song says "sitting sideways". keeping fish is a constant learning experience they're always doing something odd that we find "retarded". I have the same feeling about my assessor, can't flush him though thats reserved for damsels! LOL (P.s. i see this post being locked haha)

I you three think that it's ok to get rid of an animal you purchased because it isn't perfect and doing what you want, I hope you have enough personal responsibility to instill better values to your kids, if you have any.

It's pretty obvious the OP is a kid, I hope, so I'll give some leeway. I'll just have to assume those defending him are kids too.

You really want to avoid a Yellow Assessor. Mine has never swam right side up in two years..

Stinky Hippie... I love reading posts that are immediate attacks. You have a ton of posts. Hopefully they all are not so attacking. If it was not so time intensive, I would do a little research on your post. But I suspect it would be more of a waste of time than typing up this response is. The holier than thou never listen to reason and attempt to be reasonable. Oh and I am not a kid... I was thinking that you are a kid or a very old angry little man.

Oh, come on guys, leave stinky hippy, er, HippieSmell alone (but thanks though). I can understand him taking my post the wrong way. Hey, there are tree huggers out there and fish hugers. I kind of applaud them cause they are on the good side. Albeit, close to the edge like the taliban, but, least they are not harming anyone. Maybe a little too quick to jump the gun, but, its all good.

FYI-HippieSmell, I have a higher regard than you think. I have a 20l tank just for a stupid yellow damsel. Made me so angry, i could have flushed him at least 5 times in the past year and a half. My DT has an ATO and I have to fill the 20l manually. If I had to fill my DT daily, I would not have a tank. That damsel has made me angry more times than once and he is still around. With that in mind, and I have not flushed the little yellow ba***rd for being an a$$, u think I still dont care? Trust me, i have better things to do than spend time on "2" tanks when my DT takes care of itself! Thanks for being socially conscious, we need defenders in the clan, but, try not to jump the gun till you have the facts, your just shooting us, as a whole, in the foot. Also, I would sell the fish before I would flush it, AND, yes, we all DO buy an animal to fill an empty accessory/space to your house's decor. Its not like were doing it to SAVE the planet. Now, how one respects that privilege is another story.

Problem is, I never knew RG's swam like that. I always thought they were straight swimming/floating fish!? When I saw them in the stores they seemed to be normal!? Oh well, as long as he does not get overly mean I will keep him and he will be, like one poster said, me tanks personal little freak show. If he does get mean though, I will sooo flush him, yea, thats right, I will just flush him right down the toilet with a double flush!!!

Whenever one buys a fish, coral, clean up crew member, etc, they take on the responsibility of caring for it. Those animals did not ask to be plucked from their homes and placed into an aquarium. Proper research should be done in advance to ensure the appropriate accommodations can be met.

I too have set up a secondary tank (and a third, for a while as well) due to aggressive fish. That said, in no way is killing for flushing any type of animal acceptable. Either find it an appropriate home or trade it back to the LFS.

the original post actually said "I can't get rid of him/her..." so where did all this ranting of bad husbandry come in. The op had a good question...and sadly instead of helping, and doing a litte research to diffuse the problem, the second post got things off on a terribly un-helpful foot.

RGs are known for swimming like that. Sounds like perfectly normal behavior for your "model citizen". So to answer the original question...there is nothing to worry about.

hippy...better luck next time. Try to help, not harrass.
