Any experience With UV?
I am looking into purchasing an UV sterilizer. My tank is a 75 gal with a 15 gal sump. A lot of people say that a Uv sterilizer kills good bacteria and some say that they dont hurt anything and leave them on all the time. I was wondering what you might think. Do you feel that a UV sterilizer is important to have to have a successful tank? And are there any companies people really like? Whether its easy maintenance, safe, or just a solid construction. Thanks i would really appreciate feed back!

I run one for about a month after adding new fish. It doesn't seem to have an affect corals and inverts including pods.
Make sure research the aqua uv and emperor aquatics sites so you use the proper size and flow rates. |

I don't think it hurts to have on a tank, but it also is far from necessary. If you already have a good skimmer, lots of live rock, proper flow and all the rest of what most people deem necessary equipment and you simply want to add another piece to the puzzle then I say go for it. But if your looking for a UV sterilizer to accomplish a specific task, there is generally other, better methods available.
