LED night lighting

I was in my LFS today asking some questions and stuff and I came across these lights they have over their coral tanks. I'm just setting up my tank so I'm always looking into new stuff. They had four of these led strip light things attached to their day light. They were like 60 bucks. There has to be a cheaper way to do this right? It looked like the corals were under a blacklight when only the LED was on.

So i guess im referring to moon lighting technically. Would just a blue led strip work?

Its not necessarily a cheaper option, but Icecap makes a new LED strip light system that looks like a T5 bulb. Its around $80 at the moment but you would probably only need one over your tank for a moonlight effect.

Technically a blue led strip would be considered a moonlight. You can probably find exactly what your LFS is selling online for half the price.

There are a bunch of DIY LED threads from moonlight to lighting the whole tank. Usually cheaper and you can get exactly what you want

Cool^^ Thanks guys. I'll look into those. How many do you think I'd need for a ten gallon? Not too many bulbs right?

i've got a couple different ones over the years and i feel there are many different qualities of moonlight leds. the current powerbrite led's are amazing but yes they are costly. i think $65? I recommend you getting it but it is an investment

I bought mine from ebay for 12$ these are the loose ones. They came with tie wraps and posts to hang them on either your canopy or existing light structure.

Granted you dont need the 6 bulb option for 10 gallons but it gives you an idea
They are awesome IMO

I got 12" 15 LED strips on eBay for $2 each including shipping from China. I got 2 blues and 2 whites, mounted these on corner molding (composite, not wood) in my canopy. It gives a nice glow to the whole tank; my sun coral looks great, and my LPS look trippy. It's not too bright, but enough that I can see what's going on.

Here is the style I got:

And how they're mounted:

Cool, ^^ sounds like youre corals are doing what I want mine to do. I probably don't need it to be that long though, that would be most of my tank...
