Reef shops in SF
Hi,
I'm going to San Fransisco for the summer, traveling from Norway, and am looking to do a little shopping while I'm there. Could anyone recomend some well stocked shops that I could visit. Preferably shops that carry Tunze and a good selection of 250W DE HQI bulbes. Any public aquariums we should visit? We will have å car, so we are mobile. Thanks guys! |

Definitely check out the Steinhart Aquarium, it's worth a visit.
As for stores, yes there are quite a few, and it would be worth visiting them all. A yelp search should show all of them, but I recommend Aquatic Central, Lucky Ocean, Tropical Reef Aquarium and 6th Avenue Aquarium & Flowers. if you make it over to Oakland, definitely check out Green Marine in Berkeley. Lucky Goldfish is also very worth a stop, and has one of the nicest mature display tanks I've seen. There are also a couple stores on Alameda, and quite a few south of the city but I usually don't roam that far, maybe someone else can chime in. It might also be worth checking out Bay Area Reefers or NorCalReefClub if you are in town on a day that coincides with a meeting.. www.bareefers.org http://www.norcalreefclub.org/

There are none in alameda worth going too trust me. I go to the Lucky Goldfish about twice a week for supplies and water. Yes he has one of the best display tanks Ive ever seen, prices are kinda high but if you know what your talking about he will come down. There is also aplace called aquatic collections in hayward that is great, huge store prices on every frag and well stocked. Never been to any stores in the city but man do I need to and also the Steinhart is the best, so many great nano tanks.

6th Avenue Aquarium & Flowers is the worst place you can go to. Those people should be fined and closed down. Their tanks are really overcrowded, the fish are usually sick and will die in your tank, the customer service is non-existent. For corals they barely have any selection. I wouldn't waste my time there.
Aquatics Central is nice as well as Tropical Reef Aquarium. If you are, even if you aren't, into planted tanks you should definitely visit Aqua Forest on Fillmore st, it will get you addicted to planted tanks too. |
